Underwater Rotary Actuators High Force RI Series

The RI Series actuator supports RS422 (RS485 full duplex on 4 wires) and RS232 serial communication at 19200 baud, 8, N, 1. Communication parameters are stored in EEPROM, allowing persistent configuration. A Windows control application (DCBL_ABS_Control_Rot_9) is also available for direct control and setup.

The actuator features a 30-bit absolute multi-turn encoder: 14-bit single-turn resolution (16,383 counts/turn) combined with a 16-bit turns counter. The absolute encoder retains position information across power cycles, eliminating the need for homing routines after power loss — critical for reliable subsea operations.

The RI Series actuator delivers a nominal continuous torque of 19 ft·lbf (27 Nm) at a maximum output shaft speed of 30 RPM, using an integrated gear ratio of 238:1. The brushless motor operates at 24 VDC with a maximum continuous current draw of 2.9 A.

Yes. The RI Series actuator supports both precise position control with 0.1° resolution at the output shaft and continuous spin (jog) mode. Two software-configurable virtual travel limit switches are also included, providing flexible integration for a wide range of subsea actuation tasks.

The RI Series actuator uses an MCBH8M SubConn underwater connector with 8 pins, designed for reliable wet-mate connections in subsea environments. It operates on a 24 VDC power supply.
